Date Completed: 27th August 2024 Size: 800mm x 750mm Status: Gifted

The Story Behind the Painting: In the heart of the Red Centre, where the desert sands of Mparntwe (Alice Springs) stretch far and wide, my story began. The land around me was more than just a place—it was a part of who I was, shaping my dreams and filling my world with endless inspiration.

I’ve always had many passions pulling me in different directions. I love the stories hidden in the stars and planets, imagining what lies beyond the desert sky. Basketball is a huge part of who I am too—the rhythm of the ball, the energy, the determination it takes to chase a dream.

But art became something else entirely. It brought everything I loved together. My caseworker, Tafara, saw that before I fully did. He believed in me—just like my family—and one day, he gave me art supplies. Not just as a gift, but as a way to help me find my own voice. That moment changed everything.

With every brushstroke, I painted the world as I saw it. The golden sands of home, the deep blues of the night sky, basketballs spinning like planets—each one holding a dream, a memory, a piece of me. When I finished, I gave the painting to Tafara. It wasn’t just a thank you—it was my way of showing the connection, the support, and the belief that helped shape my journey.

This artwork is more than just paint on canvas. It’s a story of growth, gratitude, and the people who lift us up when we need it most.
