Guided by Light
Where Culture, Energy, and Future Come Together
Date Completed: 22nd July 2025 Size: 480mm x 270mm Status: Commissioned
The Story Behind the Painting: This artwork was created to reflect the spirit of the Wanaruah/Wonnarua community as we step into a new chapter—one powered by renewable energy and guided by cultural strength, vision, and legacy.
At the centre of the painting is the Wedge-tailed Eagle, the tribal totem of this land. Strong, focused, and deeply connected to Country, the eagle represents resilience, protection, and the enduring wisdom of those who have walked before us. Its wings stretch across generations—honouring the past, guiding the present, and lifting the next generation toward a brighter future.
The background is alive with motion and light, symbolising the renewable energy boom now gaining momentum across Wanaruah/Wonnarua Country. Through Ausgrid’s partnership with the Wanaruah/Wonnarua Local Aboriginal Land Council, this moment marks more than just a technical shift—it’s a cultural transition too. One that invites community voices, honours Country, and brings young people into the conversation.
Surrounding the eagle are bold, vibrant circles—symbols of energy, community, and connection. They reflect the sun, the wind, and the shared power that flows between people, land, and innovation. This painting shows that progress doesn’t mean forgetting who we are—it means building a future where culture and technology move forward together.
As a young Indigenous artist, this piece is part of my own journey—learning to listen, paint, and carry stories with care. I believe our generation is rising—not just to inherit change, but to lead it. To hold tight to what’s been passed down, and to shape what comes next with pride, strength, and heart.
This artwork is a celebration of what’s possible when we walk forward together—elders, youth, industry, and community—united by vision, respect, and the light of Country that always leads the way.
